Kabaddi was given a whole new look after the formation of this organization. National-level competitions were also started for junior and sub-junior girls and boys.
In 1980, the 1st Asian Kabaddi Championship took place. It was also included in 1982 as a demonstration game at the 9th Asian Games in New Delhi.
From 1984, the game has been included in South Asian Federation games at Dacca (Bangladesh). Kabaddi became a separate discipline at the 11th Asian Games Beijing in 1990. India was the only country to win the Kabaddi Gold Medal. India has won five gold medals consecutively in Asian Games in Hiroshima, Bangkok, Busan, Busan, 2002, Doha, 2006, and Busan.
India beat Iran to win the first World Cup in Mumbai, India in 2004. In 2007, the second World Cup took place in Panvel, India. India was once again crowned champion.
India was awarded the gold medal at the First Asian Women Championship held in Hyderabad, India. In 2006, women Kabaddi became a part of the South Asian Games in Colombo.
In the 15th Asian Games in Doha (Qatar) 2006, a new indoor stadium for Kabaddi training and competition was constructed. This is the first such facility in Asian Games history. Puzzle mats made in Korea were used for the main playing field and training/warming up courts. A giant screen was installed on the main playing field to display replays, as well as the current score. The main field of play was equipped with two ‘Tissot plasma scoreboards’, as well as info terminals and presentation staff, ceremony crew, and media.

Kabaddi is included in the second Asian Indoor Games held at Macau between 25th October and 3rd Nov 2007. India won the Gold Medal once again. Kabaddi Men and Women were both included in the 1st Asian Beach Games hosted by Indonesia at Bali in 2008. India won both gold medals for men & women events.
