Kavalan-SOS Mobile
Kavalan, which means “Police” in Tamil, is an SOS app created by the Tamil Nadu Police as part of their Master Control Room initiative. This app is designed for the people of Tamil Nadu to quickly get police help in emergencies like physical threats, harassment, kidnapping, or natural disasters like floods and earthquakes.
Who can use the app?
Anyone living in Tamil Nadu, especially women and the elderly, can use the Kavalan – SOS app whenever they feel unsafe or in danger. This app ensures that police assistance can reach them quickly, no matter their location. It’s also a handy tool for contacting the police during natural disasters.
How to download the Kavalan – SOS app?
You can find the Kavalan – SOS app on both Android and iOS devices. Just head over to the Google Play Store or the Apple Store to download it.
How to activate the app?
Once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll need to register by providing some basic info about yourself, including:
- Your personal mobile number
- Home address
- Alternate mobile number
- Email address
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Names and mobile numbers of two emergency contacts, ideally friends or relatives living nearby
Optionally, you can add a third emergency contact.
After filling in these details, you’ll get an activation code sent to your registered mobile number. Enter that code to finish the registration, and the Kavalan home screen will pop up on your phone.

How to use the Kavalan – SOS app?
In case of an emergency, just hit the SOS button on the home screen. A 5-second countdown will start, and after that, the app will automatically send your current location and a video from your back camera to the Kavalan team. They’ll reach out to you within a minute, and your location will also be sent as an SMS alert to your registered emergency contacts.
