CHENNAI – The School Education Department has launched the Manarkeni App to improve the quality of the education system and create a learning environment that is inclusive All types of devices will be able to access the learning environment.

Manarkeni, a mobile application launched last July that offers a wide range of digital materials to help teachers enhance learning for all students in the state. To make it even easier, you can access the video-based app on large screen devices, as well as on the internet. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Minister of School Education at the Secretariat launched the app on Thursday.

The app can be accessed at https://manarkeni.tnschools.gov.in.

The education department hopes that this version will teachershelp to eliminate the notion that access to technological knowledge is only available to those who are economically well-off.

The app is designed to allow anyone, including  and students, access from anywhere. The app is available in Tamil, English, and multiple state syllabuses from Class 1 through 12.

According to a press release from the Department, video has been used for all classes, from 6-12, on topics such as science, mathematics and English. Also, videos have also been made available in physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, and Physics.

The app also includes a quiz to test the student’s comprehension of concepts. The first question is easy, and then the difficulty of each subsequent question increases. There are detailed answers for each question. There are also helpful tips for students who find a particular point difficult to grasp.

National Service Scheme

NSS is a program that aims to develop the personality of students by promoting community service. This includes participating in blood donation and health camps as well as various awareness programs, such as tree planting. NSS has 97.650 students on its rolls, and there are 1958 NSS units in Tamil Nadu’s Higher Secondary schools. This scheme provides a grant each year of Rs.2.5 Crores for regular activities, and Rs.2 Crores to conduct special camps.

Sports & Physical Education

It is vital to develop a sports culture in students from different schools throughout the state. The students are encouraged and trained to compete in different District, State or National competitions. Approximately 15 lakh students participate every year in different events, from Zonal levels to National.

Assistance to students who lost bread-winning parents

Students in Classes 1-12 who are studying at Government or Government-aided Schools and whose parent is unable to work or has died, receive financial assistance. In such cases, the Government makes sure that education is not compromised by unforeseen circumstances. The Government deposits Rs.75,000 in Government Financial Institutions on behalf of the students whose parent who is the breadwinner has died or become permanently disabled in an accident. The scheme will be funded with Rs.5.70 billion in 2020-21.

Social Welfare Programs

  • Students in government-aided and state schools in Class 11 are given bicycles. The welfare department of the school provides bicycles to students who belong to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes. The School Education Department provides bicycles to students belonging to the other class (OC).
  • In Government-aided and government schools, students in class 11 are given laptops

Infrastructure Facilities

Civil works including new buildings for High and Higher secondary schools, classrooms and computer labs, laboratory equipment, art rooms and craft rooms as well as toilets and drinking water facilities have begun in 2020-21 at an estimated cost of Rs.182.66 Crore. NABARD provides assistance for civil works to upgrade High and Higher secondary schools.
